emily june’s guide to modern maximalism

The Emily June Designs team is all about embracing the beauty of maximalism! Mixing and matching colors, patterns, and textures is a fun and creative way to make any space feel more lively and interesting. However, we also understand that everyone has their own unique style preferences, and sometimes, those preferences don't fit neatly into one specific category. That's why we love finding creative ways to blend different design styles together, like modern maximalism! In this project, we were able to find the perfect balance between modern and maximalist elements, allowing the two styles to work together in perfect harmony.

This week I want to share my guide to creating the modern maximalist look! Keep reading to learn tips on how to combine two different design styles and create a unique, bold aesthetic that's all your own.

create sleek + modern lines

Can we take a moment to appreciate the stunning fireplace in this room? It's definitely the focal point and sets the tone for the entire space! With its sleek, clean lines and light finishes, this fireplace is the epitome of modern design. But of course we still want to bring in a bit of an eclectic look, so we added some beautiful antique pieces to bring in some maximalist elements. The rug, coffee table, and accessories all work together to balance out the modern feel of the fireplace.

And let's not forget about the art...or should I say TV? Yes, you read that right! The beautiful piece of art hanging above the fireplace is actually a TV. Talk about the perfect blend of form and function. It's a truly unique piece that adds an extra layer of intrigue and interest to the space!

find the perfect balance

One of the biggest challenges when it comes to creating a modern maximalist design is finding that perfect balance. You don't want the space to feel too cold and modern, but you also don't want it to be so cluttered that it becomes overwhelming. That's where mixing bold patterns comes in! By incorporating patterns into your sofa, pillows, and rug, you can add some fun and visual interest to the space while also balancing out the modern lines of your furniture and bright white walls. It's all about finding that sweet spot between modern and maximalist. Plus, playing with patterns is always a blast!

combine the old with the new

One thing we absolutely love about modern maximalist interior design is how it blends old and new elements together in unexpected ways! Take the dining area, for instance. We paired a beautifully intricate antique wood table with sleek, modern dining chairs for a striking contrast that feels right at home in a maximalist space. And when it comes to accessories, the key is to create large groupings of similar items to achieve that maximalist vibe while still maintaining a sense of cohesiveness. It's all about finding that balance between old and new, bold and subtle, to create a space that truly reflects your personal style!
