fireplaces + kitchens + bathrooms, oh my!

You all know by now that the Emily June Designs team is all about color, and that’s no different when it comes to tile! Tile designs can take a lot of planning to perfect the layout, and we do this using either Revit or Photoshop. Keep scrolling to read about some tile designs we have done in the past (and who knows, there might be a sneak peak into an ongoing project at the end)!

what’s a bathroom without fun tile?

For this contemporary bathroom design, we selected hexagon tiles from DalTile in 6 different colors and designed a layout that makes a statement! We played around with several different tile layouts because we wanted to make sure that every single tile was placed perfectly to flow with the overall design of the bathroom.

funky fireplace

The “TAG” tile from La Nova is arguably the most fun tile ever, so of course we had to use it. Our clients loved the graffitti-like designs, so what better way to incorporate it into their home than to make it front and center on the living room fireplace! Since each tile is different, we spent a while playing around with the layout before it was installed to ensure that it looked like a cohesive collage rather than a jumbled mess. The fireplace now looks like a work of art in itself!

This collection by Rethink! Tile Studio features 50 unique images designed by 25 different artists, and each image is taken from a larger piece of their work. Also, 9 out of 25 of the artists are based in Houston! Not only does our client’s fireplace look insanely cool, but it has a fun story behind it as well.

revit rendering vs. the real deal

The photo on the left is a rendering of what we intended for our clients home to look like at the end of the design process, and the photo on the rights is the final design in person! Pretty similar, right? Renderings can help our clients better understand our vision as designers, and they can help us nail down design details such as a tile layout! For this fireplace, we used white mosaic tiles from La Nova paired with a cobalt blue grout to add a fun pop of color. The clean and modern lines of the linear fireplace and floating cabinets allow for the design of the tile to have its moment in the spotlight!

ongoing project sneak peak

These two renderings were designed for an ongoing project that is currently in the construction phase, so consider this a sneak peak! On the right is the tile layout for the kitchen backsplash using white and yellow Fireclay tiles. We wanted the “random” look with the pops of yellow, so designing the layout ensures that we achieve this look in a refined way. It also ensures that there are no mistakes made when it is installed!

On the left is a rendering of our client’s bathroom, and you can see we had fun with the tile design! We used solid tiles on the walls and then a fun hand-painted Fireclay tile on the floor that we took up the wall about 16 inches in the shower. This just adds a fun little detail and we can’t wait to see how it looks in our client’s home when construction is done!
