create sleek + modern lines

There are many things in this space that are antiques or vintage pieces that would not be considered modern, but the overall look of the space is modern. The “maximalism” part of “modern maximalism” comes in with our mixture of color, patterns, and accessories (old and new)!

The focal point of this room has to be the fireplace, and its sleek and modern lines really help it to make a bold statement. Oh yeah and the bright blue tile grout helps to make a statement as well! And what’s a modern space without a Frame TV?

find the perfect balance

Mixing bold patterns with the sofa, pillows and the rug is balanced out with the modern lines of the side table, floor lamp and the bright white walls. When creating a modern maximalist design, finding the perfect balance is the main challenge. You want to try to avoid going too modern, but you also want to avoid overwhelming the space with too much “stuff”.

combine the old with the new

One of our favorite aspects of this design is the dining area. The old and intricate wood table combined with the modern dining chairs is the perfect juxtaposition that fits perfectly into a modern maximalist design! Another way that we incorporated the maximalist look is with our use of accessories. Creating large groups of similar accessories creates a maximalist look while appearing cohesive at the same time!
