not our first rodeo

Houston Rodeo season is here and it’s the 90th anniversary! Since 1932, the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo has made a huge impact on the livestock industries, entertainment industries, and in the sport of rodeo. The first big name to perform at HLSR was Gene Autry in 1942, and since then so many iconic musicians have made an appearance such as Elvis Presley, Beyonce, KISS and Selena.

In the spirit of rodeo season, we want to share some Southwestern inspired interiors and some outfit inspiration with you!

southwestern design

The Southwestern interior design style draws inspiration from homes found in Mexico and the American Southwest. A few of the main characteristics of this design style is the use of stucco and tile, natural materials, and warm colors. Southwestern design also commonly features Aztec prints and animal skins for items such as rugs and upholstery. Just like any design style, there are so many different ways to achieve this look to fit your style. Keep reading to see some of our favorites!

add a modern twist

Adding a modern twist to a Southwestern style design adds so much contrast since the style are so different, but the outcome is amazing! This designer proves that you don’t have to stick with just one design style, but you can create ways to seamlessly combine elements that you love.

We love mixing patterns here at Emily June Designs, so this room really speaks to us! Mixing color, texture and pattern can add a layered feeling to a design which, in turn, creates an inviting atmosphere.
