design tip:

One tip that I always love to share about mixing patterns is to use different scale patterns in the same room. Instead of mixing small scale patterns with other small scale patterns, try using small, medium and large scaled patterns all within the same space so that instead of competing with each other, they complement each other!

playful pattern picks: our favorite pattern combos!

This study features the most gorgeous patterns that are balanced out by solid colors such as the trimwork, the sofa and the coffee table. These elements of solid colors really help to create the perfect balance for the fun patterns to show off in this room! The pattern on the wallpaper is really the focal point of the room, and the green paint helps it to shine in the spotlight.

A bedroom should speak to your personality! This bedroom is the most adorable mix of patterns and colors which creates a soft atmosphere. The headboard really stands out with the bold pattern, and is complemented by the small scale pattern on the pillows! Mixing patterns should be fun, but should also have thought and purpose behind them.

Mixing patterns doesn’t necessarily mean that you need to mix colors! This design is proof that a monochromatic space doesn’t need to look boring. While this designer mixed several patterns of the same color, these patterns are all different scales to they complement each other perfectly.

The bold stripes on the wall are such a large scale that none of the patterns in this design compete with it! Even though there is a stripe pattern on the walls and on the window shade, these two patterns don’t compete with each other at all since they are different scales and the stripes are running opposite ways. With the small scale patterns on the bed, the upholstered bench stands out with a medium scale pattern. This is such a balanced yet unique design!
