the ejd team explores round top

Last weekend, the Emily June Designs team packed up our bags, put on our boots, and headed to Round Top! It was an amazing weekend full of inspiration and cool finds. We were lucky to experience great weather while we were there, no rain and plenty of hot Texas sun. We are so happy that Round Top is just a short drive from Houston!

art everywhere!

Along with furniture and accessories, Round Top is a great place to explore art! So many talented artists are represented throughout the town, and you are guaranteed to find amazing art no matter what your style or preference is.

african beads

These African glass beads make for the most unique accessories in a home! The process in which they are made is so interesting and very time consuming. These beads have been a part of Western African culture for a long time now, and are still made and exported from Ghana. The craft of bead making is often a family tradition, and the techniques are passed on from one generation to another. These glass beads are often made from layers of powdered glass mixed with dye and poured into moulds, and involves a process of heating and cooling. Once the beads are made, they are often hand painted with original designs. They are so beautiful!

architectural anarchy

Exploring Market Hill in Round Top was so exciting, and one of our favorite places was Architectural Anarchy! Gosia and Bill are the owners behind Architectural Anarchy, as well as Zap Props which are both based in Chicago. Zap Props is the largest prop house in the Midwest, and they have outfitted almost every major film production in Chicago! They have also worked on some projects for some of the most popular restaurants in Chicago. Exploring Architectural Anarchy took us to another world as we explored so many amazing vintage neon signs, movie posters, and so much more. There were so many pieces to look at that you can’t just walk through once, we could have spent hours in there!

Schwung home

During our trip to High Point Market this past June, we got to visit Schwung Home and it was a great experience. We were so excited to see that they had a store set up in Round Top as well! Schwung Home focuses on “antique European furniture, modernist statement pieces and imported home furnishings from North Africa”. They curate the most amazing antique pieces and unique accessories, furniture and lighting. It was so fun to be able to explore their company again while we were in Round Top!

courtney barton

On our first day in Round Top, we visited Courtney Barton’s shop at The Arbors! She has a store here in Houston as well, so we were so excited to see her things in another location. Her shop featured beautiful textiles, carefully curated furnishings, unique art and so many fun accessories! This collection of art above the bed was done by Caroline Kaufman who is a New York based artist whose art is inspired by color, texture and pattern. We will definitely be back to visit again!

christmas @ sparks antiques

One of our favorite places that we visited in Round Top was Sparks Antiques at ExCess Field! Sparks Antiques had a large and unique collection of European and American antiques, and we were finding unique items everywhere that we looked. Among our favorites were this collection of Christmas antiques that immediately caught our attention!

getting inspired

Along with antique accessories, we saw so many amazing pieces of vintage furniture. Exploring Round Top was such a great experience and brought the Emily June Designs team so much inspiration! Getting out of the office and exploring new (and old) things always gives us a new fire for what we already love to do. We cannot wait to go back!
