why we love antiques

At Emily June Designs, we love to furnish and accessorize any space by using a few antique or vintage items! We love using our clients antique items that have meaning to them because we find it very rewarding to bring new life to things that are important to our clients. However, we also love sourcing antiques from some of our favorite local shops that we curate for each individual client. Two or three well placed antiques can really elevate a space and give it soul, even if the space has a modern design. Using antiques gives a gritiness to a design that most spaces with all new furniture usually lacks in my opinion.

Humans possess an innate need to find a connection to the past, which leads many people to adore objects that have had a life longer than themselves. Because of this, we love to mix the old world style with the new! When accessorizing with antiques it is important to keep an open mind and observe how these pieces blend with the rest of your space. antique brass

Our team had such a fun time sourcing accessories for the dining space in this client’s home! The collection of brass candle sticks on the buffet are a mixture of antique finds and new finds. We sourced a few antique brass candle sticks from Memorial Antiques & Interiors, a few new ones from FOUND For The Home, and we also used a few of the clients candle sticks from her own collection. By using a variety of the same accessories with different styles, we were able to create a fun contrast to the more modern piece of furniture that the candle sticks are displayed on.

antique books

Accessorizing bedside tables leaves a lot of room for creativity! In this bedroom design, we added simple accessories that would work well with this fun floral wallpaper and didn’t take away from the pattern on the wall. We used some of our clients antique books that a family member handed down to her, and paired them with some more modern accessories. Mixing antique accessories with new accessories is one of our favorite ways to achieve the eclectic look that Emily June Designs is known for!

antique objects

The hand shaped objects are actually antique marble mannequin hands that we sourced from Joyce Horn Antiques. Using antique items like this is proof that outdated items that are no longer used can serve as a conversation starter in your home! By accessorizing with a few antique objects in a modern space, it allows us to create a sense of history in our clients homes.

antique art

In this powder bathroom, we chose a bold wallpaper to create a whimsical look in a small space. We used our clients antique art that has been passed through her family, and used gilded gold frames to pop against the floral wallpaper. At Emily June Designs, we love accessorizing with art, but using a clients existing art adds more personal meaning to a design! Art tells a story, but using art like this that has special meaning to our client makes that story even more special.

antique furniture

Here at Emily June Designs, we love bringing new life to our clients antique furniture. This chair is an heirloom piece handed down by the client's great grandparents, and we had it reupholstered in a bold stripe fabric while still keeping the overall integrity and beauty of the carved wood. Reupholstering antique furniture gives us and our clients the opportunity to be creative with the fabric choice because we can source a fabric that has the same antique influence as the piece of furniture, or a fun fabric that allows us to contrast the traditional piece with a modern pattern. Using antiques in a classic design brings in that traditional influence, while we add our own touch to it!
