time for a field trip!

No permission slip needed – in today’s journal entry, we’re walking through one of our ongoing job sites. Located in our backyard of Houston, Texas, this townhome is being completely renovated, top to bottom!

With a total renovation project, the Emily June Designs team works side by side with the owner to ensure every detail is just as they’ve dreamed it. Our client’s design goals for this redesign are to invoke a relaxed, but unconventional aesthetic that feels inviting! Her key colors are an earthy sage green and desert rose, complimented by gold finishes and natural elements like rattan and stained wood. Read on to learn more about some notable design elements that make this home totally unique!

tile treatment

A key feature in this project are the various tile treatments sprinkled throughout the home! Implementing different colors and shapes into the multiple tiled surfaces brings a warm, organic feel to the space while introducing plenty of visual texture!

scenic shower

This shower area just received its tile makeover, a lovely ceramic treatment in a perfectly rosy shade! The subtle color and surface variations bring a healthy amount of visual texture to this bathroom without overwhelming the room! Once the tile is complete, the shower will be closed in with glass, keeping the space feeling airy and light!

Below you can see another area where tile is taking center stage! This petite upstairs bathroom will feature a whimsical checkerboard pattern with white and sage rectangular tiles surrounding the tub. I love how again, the tile makes a statement without overtaking the entire space. When working with patterns, my goal is always for elements in a room to complement each other!

cozy centerpiece

Our client decided to take her fireplace from so-so to stupendous! What was once a simple built-in fireplace is being transformed into an inviting focal point for the living room:

fireplace feature

This large-scale fireplace feature begins with a stone hearth and draws the eye all the way up this wall, allowing the eye to first take in the unique fireplace, followed by yards of warm terracotta tile. At the top, a beautifully-textured paneled ceiling awaits!

As you can see in the photos below, the hearth is made of a terrazzo-esque stone which serves as a perfect complement to the tile. This treatment totally changed the appearance of the living room in the best way! We can’t wait to reveal the finished product!

walk-in wonderland!

There’s lots of built-in delights in store for this project, but we just had to share the client’s walk-in closet!

Make it stand out

The lush paint color almost creates a forest-like feel in this walk-in wonderland! It will feature custom compartments and hanging rods built just for our client’s height. Gold finish hardware will be the perfect complement to brighten up the space!

You can take a sneak peek at all the fun compartments awaiting our client when her closet is complete – the shoe racks might be my favorite detail! The closet will also feature gold finish light fixtures from one of our favorite vendors, Visual Comfort!
