ceilings we’re over the roof for

Ceilings are sometimes the most overlooked parts of a design, but we are here to show you all of the amazing ways you can enhance your space with unique ceiling choices! From tall ceilings to enclosed spaces, and from bold colors to neutral designs, we are going to show you a variety of beautiful designs that feature unique ceiling details!

wallpaper isn’t just for walls

Wallpaper is usually seen on walls (I mean, it’s in the name!) but in the Emily June Designs studio space we used a fun floral wallpaper on the ceiling! We use the boards on the walls to display fabrics and finishes for our clients, and we didn’t want any color or pattern to clash with what the client was seeing. So, we kept the walls white and went with a patterned ceiling instead! We kept this same trend throughout the office, as you can see in the next room over we went with a bold blue ceiling color while the walls are still white.

While sometimes it’s best for a space to avoid darker ceilings, sometimes it’s a fun way to give your space some unique charm. Typically, this type of ceiling can be used in spaces you want to make more intimate. Since this is our presentation room where we meet one-on-one with clients, we wanted it to feel like a very collaborative space!

not the usual shape

The designer of this room definitely didn’t skip out on perfecting every single little detail in this space! The millwork on the ceiling is so unique and clearly the design of it was very thought out. This ceiling pattern coordinates with the shape of the pendant lights, which draws your eyes up and makes the room appear larger!

White ceilings are something you see in almost every home, but this designer really made this ceiling stand out with these fun shapes. The color palette for this room is simple and elegant, but this ceiling creates more texture and movement within this dining area. Sometimes a darker ceiling might clash with your space, so adding something like this to your design might be the way to go if you want something a little brighter!

color from wall to ceiling

This pink monochrome design is something out of a dream! You might not be able to tell, but this room has some really high ceilings compared to your typical residential space. These dark ceilings that match the wall color bring the ceiling down and make the space seem a little smaller and more intimate!

The dark ceiling is brightened up quite a bit by the natural light flooding in through the tall windows. If this space had smaller windows or not as many, this space might appear dark and more enclosed. However, these windows allow this design to shine, and this space still feels light and airy!

molding with a modern twist

Moldings might be something you associate with more traditional designs, but the modern shapes used within the furniture and decor allow this space to appear more contemporary! The all white ceiling and wall combination work extremely well in this room because of the amount of color already being used throughout the space. These two different seating areas are also separated not only by the different rugs, but by the ceiling molding as well! The molding within the further seating area actually cuts off into it’s own little ceiling space, and the designer decided to include a separate seating area to emphasize this. All together, with the modern furniture, ceiling molding, and decorative chandelier, this space has a timeless look that is perfect for hosting any guests!

arches are always in

Arches are another more traditional feature seen in older homes. However, don’t think that this can’t be something added into your home! This arched ceiling uses a reflective finish that allows the light to bounce off it and makes this dark space fully illuminated. This light fixture has such a unique shape and the ceiling detail really highlights it!

Black is a bold choice to go for in a design, but this designer did it seamlessly! From floor to ceiling, this design is all black and white with pops of gold accents. The black trim helps separate the ceiling and floor from the wallpaper pattern, and allows for the floor to utilize a different pattern and the ceiling to speak for itself. Using good lighting within a dark design like this is imperative. All in all, this space was beautifully designed and is a great example of how to design with black!

make the most of it

This is a small recessed seating area that makes the most of the space available! Sometimes designers and homeowners are faced with oddly shaped spaces like the one pictured here. There are various ways of making use of this type of space such as a small desk area, built-ins, or a lounge area like this one! This ceiling also features a glossy finish so that light can bounce off of it and allow the space to be properly illuminated.

The designer emphasized the shape of the ceiling by including a hanging light fixture with a chain that goes from one corner to the slanted part of the ceiling. There’s also a small wall sconce near the couch for extra lighting! The ceiling color and wallpaper allow this space to feel cozy and warm, along with the jewel-toned sofa that looks perfect for relaxing and enjoying a good book!
